Throughout this website, I have done my best to make clear my passionate belief that women and men are equal and should be treated that way.

This has included modifying the language and the choice of examples in the various articles and posts.

I ask you to take my word that I am well aware of the dangers of essentialism (the belief that there are characteristics which are the essence of being female or of being male) and I reject it. At the same time, simple life experience has shown me that women and men are different - wonderfully and joyfully. This does mean that very occasionally I will write about things which I believe to be generally true of women and generally true of men, even if it is only within a given context (say, western society). I have tried to flag this up whenever it occurs.

Similarly, I know that both gender and sexual orientation are spectra rather than givens. Again, I have tried to make that clear throughout the site.
